International Visiting Artist in Pedagogy

“The advent of the Aureus Music Conservatory is both exciting and innovative for music education in Singapore. It will serve as the jewel in the crown for the ever-growing teaching fraternity at the Aureus Academies in Singapore.
Whether new to the profession or as mature students, Instrumental music teachers will further develop their own Musical and Pedagogic skills in a stimulating and creative setting, as well as learn to respond to an evolving learning and teaching environment for children of today which embraces innovation and technology.

As someone who has worked closely in music teacher education and support in Singapore and across South and East Asia during the past 20 years, I am both thrilled and excited to see this opportunity for those teachers who want to truly excel and become professionally equipped to teach and train a new generation of youngsters.

Formerly ABRSM Regional Consultant to SE Asia and ABRSM Hong Kong and Singapore Development Executive, Bill Thomson has been involved in music education throughout his professional life, as a director of music in schools in Scotland, England, Thailand, and Hong Kong, and for the last 18 years supporting teachers through his work for ABRSM.

He is also an ABRSM Examiner as well as the European String Teachers’ Association Ambassador to China and SE Asia. Bill particularly enjoys working closely with ABRSM representatives in Hong Kong and Singapore, and visiting schools in the region. In 2012, Bill established the ABRSM Celebration Orchestra in Hong Kong to allow high scoring exam candidates to work together and learn about ensemble playing.

Bill Thomson is currently the International Visiting Artist in Pedagogy at the Aureus Conservatory.
